Winter comes with some really unique opportunities to get out and around and enjoy activities you can’t in the summer sun! Skating, snowshoeing, skiing and more are all fun winter activities most people can enjoy either within or near to their own cities. But what about a great winter getaway location? If you’re looking for a city break that really dazzles in the winter, look no further than New York.

Times Square

If you’re looking for a truly unique perspective on Times Square, nothing beats checking it out amid the falling snow in the winter time. Lit up with all manner of lights from the huge screens in the square, it’s easy to see why this is one place that has a type of quiet magic in the winter. If you’re looking to see some of the attractions of the city in the snow, this is one of the best, especially at night when all the colours of the signs will be reflecting off the white snow, making it a truly beautiful area of the city to visit.

Rockefeller Skating and Christmas Tree

Every winter, the Rockefeller Centre becomes the hub of Christmas and winter related activities. Come check out their enormous Christmas tree as well as a huge skating rink that attracts hundreds of visitors a day. Take a break from skating and get a cup of hot chocolate at a nearby street vendor or pop inside one of the local cafes to take a load off and rub elbows with the locals. A real winter warmer in this frosty city! Be sure to check out some of the shops selling all manner of items, including Christmas decorations you can take home for your own tree as a memento of that memorable winter getaway in New York City.

Other Attractions

Attractions all throughout the city remain open all winter long. Whether you’re coming for the first time or you have been here several times in the past, it’s no surprise that the city that never sleeps keeps its attractions open year round for visitors. If you’re brave enough to work with the weather you can still take boat trips to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Take a stroll through snowy Central Park and stop for a warm drink. For an indoor activity that will be enjoyable as it is awe-inspiring, take a tour of One World Trade, and then visit the memorial to victims of 9/11. Be sure to head to the Observation Deck for stunning panoramas of one of America’s most visited cities. If you want other indoor attractions, check out Planet Hollywood or some of the numerous museums around the city!

There you have a couple of great reasons why visiting New York City in the winter is a real treat. Bundle up warm and be sure to bring some mittens when traversing the dazzling streets of this bustling city day or night.
